About us

Fosse Meadows is a Total Freedom poultry farm set in the rolling green fields of North Kilworth, Leicestershire, with strong animal welfare ethics and a national reputation for high quality meat. Owners Nick Ball and Jacob Sykes continue to champion traditional and compassionate methods of farming, producing the absolute best birds with the highest welfare standards. Our animals live their lives naturally. They have the freedom to roam all over the fields and are fed on high quality food that is free from routine antibiotics, additives, and growth hormones.

We farm from day-old to 12 weeks, producing 2,000 birds a week to sell at Farmer’s Markets, wholesalers and directly to retail customers online. We butcher in-house and create our own high-margin products from pies, sausage rolls, pate, jerky and broths. We also produce seasonal poultry, lamb, and hogget.

We are now at an exciting period of growth and are expanding our team to meet the high demands for our award-winning produce. Poultry/Catering Butcher

The role

Butcher,

Experienced butcher required for a farm based meat cutting plant which takes provenance and quality very seriously.  The role is varied and involves one day working in our EC licenced poultry abattoir processing our chickens alongside cutting requirements.

A minimum of 3 years butchery experience is essential, with a strong emphasis on poultry and experience of red meat cutting and full carcass breakdown.

Experience of bacon, gammon curing and sausage production would be an advantage.

We produce and sell cooked products such as pork pies, pate, stock and broth, so an interest in learning this side of production would be beneficial.

Food Production Operative x 4

Food Production Worker

We are looking for committed, compassionate, and ambitious individuals to join our team and grow with our thriving business. We need 2 people to work in our packing room, we have day shifts from 7.30am till 4.30pm that will suit both part time and full time workers within our modern, high specification food production facility.

Key responsibilities:

· Packing of fresh chicken & chicken portions

· Packing red meat cuts

· Assisting in production of pie and pate making, broth pouring

· Product packing and labelling and ensuring quality

· Quality control

· Order picking

· Cleaning

Apprentice Butcher (Level 2)

The role

Apprentice Butcher (Level 2)

Hourly rate is negotiable depending on age and previous work experience.

We are offering a rare and exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join us as an apprentice Butcher, learning our craft from start to finish whilst gaining a Level 2 qualification. By the end of the programme apprentice butchers will possess knowledge, skills and behaviours laid out in the apprenticeship standard. Butchery is a highly skilled craft profession steeped in tradition. At your apprenticeship EPA you will be able to display knowledge and skills of a range of meat species and the various techniques needed to process and/or produce products for sale. In addition, butchers will be able to cut, prepare, package and present meat products to the standards required.

16 months is the average period of time taken to complete the Level 2 Apprenticeship.

Data & eCommerce Administrator (Full time)

The role

Data & eCommerce administrator

Do you love analysing data, have a passion for spreadsheets and are a confident user of Excel? We are looking to recruit an analytical eCommerce & Data Administrator to work within our expanding eCommerce and food production team. Duties are as follows:

  • Data collection

  • Data consolidation

  • Data cleansing

  • Data management for reporting

  • Digital merchandising

  • Managing digital stock levels

You will be working with various Excel spreadsheets, the companies WordPress/WooCommerce website and the internal Warehouse Management System. You will also be responsible for responding to customer queries via email/telephone and updating the case management system accordingly with a focus on data and manipulating spreadsheets.

Driver & Market Stall Operator

The role

Driver & Market Stall Operator

Based out of our Leicestershire site, this is an interesting and diverse customer facing role that will see you delivering products to wholesale customers including Butchers shops and restaurants across London and the surrounding areas (1-2 days per week).

In addition you will be the face of our business at one of our premium, weekend, London markets. This stall holder role is physically demanding and will require you to be autonomous and proactive in your approach to promoting our retail products to our discerning customers.

General Farm Worker

The role

We are looking for reliable, self-motivated, practical individuals to join our team based on our free-range chicken farm in North Kilworth, Leicestershire. We are an established high welfare broiler and sheep farm with the majority of day to day jobs involving the chickens. This is an active and diverse role with great opportunity for someone who wants to develop there skills and progress their career with a innovative successful livestock farming business.

Within the role you will be required to:

  • Looking after livestock, with a particular day to day focus on chickens, this includes bedding down, pressure washing, setting up sheds, feeding.

  • Chicken catching and moving birds.

  • The successful candidate must have an interest in livestock and animal welfare.

  • General farm work to include construction, groundworks and labouring.

  • Organise livestock movements in line with pasture management.

  • Assist with seasonal poultry, both for livestock and processing.

Candidate Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will be physically fit, self motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated.

  • A good eye for detail is essential.

  • The successful candidate must have an interest in livestock and animal welfare and want to develop their understanding of poultry

  • Want to achieve their Poultry Passport certificate.

  • This is a responsible position, which needs the successful candidate to be a team player and also happy to work alone.

  • You will be required to 5 days per week and to work out of hours, when the job dictates.

  • Telehandler Certificates are a preference but training can be given.

  • Driving License

  • Be reliable and committed and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Basic construction skills and practically minded

  • Vehicle maintenance.

  • References preferable

Maintenance Engineer

The role

Maintenance Engineer

We are looking to recruit an experienced, multidiscipline maintenance engineer to work at our farm and food production unit in North Kilworth. This is an exciting and varied role that will see you call upon your skills in the following areas:

  • Electrics

  • Hydraulic and Vacuum systems

  • Plumbing

  • Motors

  • Basic construction and groundworks

  • Ability to manage and supervise outside contractors where needed

  • Farm machinery/heavy machinery

  • Welding and workshop skills

  • Fault finding

You will play an important part in helping us to develop our serving and maintenance programmes across all parts of the business. You will be responsible for managing a tidy, organised workshop with safe working practices. You will be responsible for ordering spare parts and consumables.

Essentials for this role:

  • Previous experience in a heavy engineering/agricultural or food production environment

  • Electrical, Hydraulic, mechanical and pneumatic fault-finding experience

  • Welding experience
